The Future” is now for Nate Lamotte

ASC debut show July 31 at  Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire

SALEM, New Hampshire (July 9, 2009) – Back  in 2006, Manchester welterweight Nate “The Future” Lamotte fought in New Hampshire’s first sanctioned pro mixed-martial-arts show and now his July 31st showdown against Doug “Flash” Gordon has been elevated to main event on American Steel Cagefighting’s (ASC) first professional mixed martial arts show, at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire.

Lamotte-Gordon, the original co-feature, due to an injury replaces the originally scheduled main event between Lance Everson and Woody Weatherby.

IFL veteran Lamotte (10-4-0) started studying Shaolin Kempo with Sensei John Burgess when he was eight years old. Nate, who wrestled in high school and college, was given his nickname, “The Future,” by a friend who told him “he was the future of the sport.”

Gordon, fighting out of New Castle, Delaware, has a Brazilian Jui-Jitsu blue belt. His most notable win was a third-round knockout of a fighter with the sport’s most recognizable last name, Gregor Grace, via a devastating kick to the head in their fight last year.

The new co-main event finds New York lightweight Pat Audinwood (7-0-0) putting his undefeated pro record on the line against former Cage Fury Fighting champion, “Mr. Big” Al Buck (6-7-0).

UFC pioneer Patrick Smith (16-13-0) makes his New England debut versus another UFC veteran, super heavyweight Kevin “The Shamnan” Jordan (11-8-0), in the Super Fight.

Also scheduled to brawl on the explosive 10-fight ASC card is middleweight Lamont Lister (6-7-0) vs. Randy Rowe (2-6-0), Worcester featherweight Evan Parker (1-0-0) vs. Albert Ricco  in his pro debut, lightweight Damien “The Omen” Trites (2-3-0) vs. Joe Dechaves (3-1-0);  lightweight Brian Danner (1-1-0) vs. Chris Foster (3-0-0), welterweight Carlos Nieves (3-6-0) vs. Ryan Schieding (3-1-0); Boston welterweight Nick Drummond (2-0-0) vs. Manchester’s pro debuting Adam McQuaid. Al Germain Sterling faces Ibrahiem Tody, of Allston (MA), in a 145-pound amateur match.

All fights are scheduled for three, three-minute rounds; fighters and fights are subject to change. Tickets, priced at $50.00, $75.00, and $100.00, are available to purchase at Stateline Ticket Agency in Salem (NH) and all Two Guys Smoke Shop stores in Salem, Nashua and Seabrook (NH), as well as by calling toll free 888.224.4272 or  going on line to www.AmericanSteelCagefighting.com.

Doors open at 6 PM, first fight at 8 PM. Go to www.AmericanSteelCagefighting.com for additional information.

Everson-Weatherby headlines

American Steel Cagefighting MMA debut show

July 31 at  Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire

SALEM, New Hampshire (June 15, 2009) – American Steel Cagefighting makes its professional mixed-martial-arts promotional debut July 31 with an explosive 10-fight card scheduled at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire.

The main event pits Lance Everson (11-6-0), fighting out of Mansfield (MA) for The Boneyard, against U.S. Navy veteran Woody Weatherby (7-1-0), of Nashua (NH), representing Reno Gracie NH.

“I’ve been an MMA fan since UFC1,” co-promoter Dave Garofalo said. “New England is becoming a hot bed for MMA with a lot of young, talented fighters. We’re giving them an opportunity to fight on a professional show in front of passionate MMA fans. I’ve been in the promotional business most of my life and I love MMA like a lot of people I know. I’m happy we have one of the best MMA matchmakers in the business, Gary Marino, who is an encyclopedia of MMA.”

The co-feature matches IFL veteran Nate “The Future” Lamotte (10-4-0), of Manchester (NH), and dangerous Doug “Flash” Gordon (9-7-0). The Super Fight is between super heavyweights who both fought in the UFC, veteran Kevin “The Shamnan” Jordan (11-8-0) and pioneer Patrick Smith (16-13-0).

“Back in 1999,” co-promoter Sal LoNano added,” I promoted a boxing show on ESPN at the Icenter. I always wanted to go back there but it never happened. When I partnered with David to form American Steel Cagefighting, the first thing we did was contact the Icenter to have our first show there. We’re all very excited and we hope that the Icenter will become a home-base for ASC. MMA is the fastest growing sport in the country and I’ve left boxing for good to promote MMA shows with David. We’d like to thank the state of New Hampshire, Commissioner Bobby Stephen and his staff for their assistance.”

Also scheduled to fight on the ASC card is unbeaten New York lightweight Pat Audinwood (7-0-0) vs. “Mr. Big” Al Buck (6-7-0), former Cage Fury Fighting champion; lightweight Damien “The Omen” Trites (2-3-0) vs. Joe Dechaves (3-1-0); pro debuting featherweights Al Germain Sterling vs. Albert Reccio; welterweight Carlos Nieves (3-6-0) vs. Ryan Schieding (3-1-0); Worcester featherweight Evan Parker (1-0-0), Boston welterweight Aaron McKenna in his pro debut, and Boston middleweight John Clark (7-2-0) against opponents to be determined.

“CYBORG” TAKES ON “SMACK GIRL” CHAMPION APRIL 11TH

 Women’s Showdown Precedes Shamrock vs. Diaz Main Event and Thomson vs. Melendez II;

Live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT)

From the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif

New York (March 4, 2009) – Rival forces from different worlds will meet when women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) sensation, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (6-1) of Brazil collides with “Smack Girl” Champion Hitomi “Girlfight Monster” Akano (14-5) of Japan, in a 145-pound showdown, live on Saturday, April 11, part of Strikeforce's Shamrock vs. Diaz stacked fight card, and airing live on SHOWTIME from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

“I know Hitomi Akano is the best Japanese female fighter today, but I am prepared for any situation and will always be looking for the knockout,” said the 23-year-old Cyborg, who will make her Strikeforce debut on April 11.

A member of the vaunted Brazilian fight Team Chute Boxe, Cyborg's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills are formidable.  But it is her Muay Thai striking that is her passion and which has been most instrumental in her six career wins.  She has not lost a fight since her debut in 2005.

“My coaches and I will study the style of Akano.  My master Rafael Cordeiro is one who has helped me grow up in MMA.  He is the best coach in the world.”

Last month, Cyborg joined her husband and Chute Boxe teammate, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, as a member of the Strikeforce roster.  Santos is slated to make his Strikeforce debut later this year.

Akano, a submission specialist and former standout on Japan’s national judo team, has never been finished by an opponent in 19 career fights. She is looking to notch her fourth consecutive victory.

“I am really looking forward to this fight because, compared to mine, Cyborg has got almost a completely opposite style.  She is a striker and I am a grappler,” said Akano, whose start on April 11 will be her second in the United States.  “Regardless of where I fight, I believe in myself and my ability to fight my own game.”

During her run in Smack Girl, a Japan-based promotion dedicated exclusively to staging women’s MMA bouts, she ran to an unmatched 9-0 record before suffering her first loss by way of a narrow split decision on November 3, 2007.

In addition to her world-class combat, Akano boasts songwriting as a talent.  The 34-year-old typically uses “Between The Sky,” a song she composed, as her cage entrance music.

The “Shamrock vs. Diaz” event represents the dawn of a new age for Strikeforce as it will be the first one under its new television agreement with Showtime Networks Inc.  The live telecast will feature up to five fights including a thrilling main event between three-time world champion and MMA legend Frank Shamrock (24-9-1) and fellow knockout artist Nick Diaz (18-7, 1 NC) contested at a catch weight of 179 pounds.

Strikeforce World Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson (16-2) and superstar “El Nino” Gilbert Melendez (14-2) will revisit their classic five-round battle when they collide in a rematch for the coveted 155-pound title.

Middleweight (185-pound limit) sluggers Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (16-5, 1 NC) and Benji “Razor” Radach (19-4) will also meet in a featured contest.

Strikeforce “Shamrock vs. Diaz” will air live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) on Saturday, April 11.

Tickets for “Shamrock vs. Diaz,” priced from $30, are available for purchase at the HP Pavilion box office (408-287-7070) as well as at all Ticketmaster locations (408-998-TIXS), Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com), and Strikeforce’s official website (www.strikeforce.com).

Hot UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon

positioned for future title run

E. BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (February 16, 2009) – Tattoo-less Joe "J-Lau" Lauzon, coming off his impressive win against Jeremy Stephens, headlining the February 7th "UFC Fight Night 17" in Tampa, has positioned himself for a future UFC title run in the highly competitive lightweight division.

Lauzon (18-4, 5 KOs, 13 submissions), star of The Ultimate Fighter 5 television reality show, put on a classic Brazilian Jui-jitsu demonstration against Jeremy "Lil' Heathen" Stephens (14-4, 10 KOs, 2 submissions), who was a late replacement for injured Hermes Franca (20-7).

After suffering a 7-inch cut on his hairline from an elbow, Lauzon used a "fireman's carry" to take power striker Stephens to the mat, where Joe mounted Jeremy and locked in a submission by arm-bar at 4:43 into the second round. Lauzon earned "Submission of the Night" honors.

"The flying heel hook is a move MMA people don't see a lot," Lauzon described his somewhat unconventional leg-lock. "I did it 4-5 months ago and decided to do it again. This was a good fight for me to showcase what I like to do in a UFC main event on Spike. I knew he (Stephens) was dangerous on his feet but not on the ground. My corner was upset with me at one point for getting caught with a few punches, but it wasn't as bad as it looked, and I wasn't hurt at all. Some thought I rushed for a submission after I got cut, but I stayed calm and I heard somebody in my corner yelling 45-seconds. I knew I had time for a submission, if I picked up the pace, and I did. He's a tough, stocky kid."

Lauzon is one of the few, if not the only MMA fighter without a single tattoo. In fact, he stands out from other fighters because he doesn't have the customary "tats" all over his body. "Yeah," Joe laughed, "I just can't commit to anything. Some tattoos look good but most are terrible. Fighters either have 1 or 2, or all up and down their body. Maybe down the road, on a certain place, but right now I don't have a desire to have something permanent on my body like a tattoo."

The UFC lightweight division, from top to bottom, is loaded. Lauzon finds himself on the verge of cracking into a spot among the UFC's elite 155-pound, chasing champion (and his former coach) B. J. Penn, former title-holder Sean Sherk and a rematch with Kenny Florian among the more notables. "I think the lightweight division, by far, is the toughest and deepest, talent- wise," Lauzon commented. "A lot of those top guys are a solid 170-180 pounds, walking around, and lose weight to fight at 155. Someday I'd like a rematch with Kenny Florian, of course, and I want to fight Hermes, especially after all the trash he talked after pulling out of our fight. But he's going to be out of action for a while with a torn ACL (knee injury).  Next, I'd like somebody like Clay Guida (26-6), who just won a big fight against Nate Diaz (decision)."
